Job Description
The Senior Programming Manager is a Senior Manager-level team member and the leader of day-to-day program development for The Englert Theatre who develops a remarkable program of annual events that reflect the mission and meet financial goals. The Senior Programming Manager also serves as a producer and support staff for festivals and special programs like Mission Creek Festival, Witching Hour, and Wavelength.

Works closely with the Executive Director, other senior team members, and staff from the marketing, front-of-house, and production departments

Core Job Duties
Year-Round Talent Buying, Presenting, & Promoting
Manage a programming budget of $1+ million/year
Meet or exceed net revenue goals
Meet or exceed mission-delivery goals
Grow positive, complementary relationships with agents/managers, artists, and the audience/community
Develop meaningful friendships and partnerships with community venues and programmatic organizations
Identify opportunities for programmatic growth that align with our values and benefit the community
Book 50+ concerts, lectures, and multidisciplinary events in our historic theater (700-cap)
Book 30+ concerts and special events in our partner club venues like Gabe’s (150-400-cap)
Book 5-10 shows in our larger partner venues like Big Grove, Paramount, and Hancher (1200-1800-cap)
Oversee all event administrative duties
Artistic Vision & Community Development
Work with Executive Director to evolve the artistic vision of the organization
Support Festival Director’s vision for developing and growing festivals and special projects
Ensures safety of the equipment in the building and the building itself
Support Events & Operations Director on development and execution of Wavelength/educational programming
Festival Production
Serve as producer on Mission Creek Festival, Witching Hour, and other special events
Wavelength/Educational Programming
Meet with Events & Operations Director, Executive Director, and other relevant team members to assess progress and discuss goals for Wavelength programming
Digital Production
Oversee half-time producer’s work on digital production efforts including video projects and podcasts
Service to the Field
Participate as an active member in arts associations such as Arts Midwest, APAP, and NIVA
Attend seasonal arts conferences and summits as a representative of the Englert and an
advocate for the arts
Required Qualifications
General Work Skills

Thoughtful communication skills, both written and oral
Strong organizational skills and habits
Working knowledge of Google Workplace, Microsoft Office, social media, and workflow apps
Vigilant on email and follow-up
Programming Experience

Empathy for a variety of community perspectives
Strong record of DEI values in programmatic practice
3+ years in a mid- or senior-level programming role with a record of artistic and financial success
Proven record of positive, strong relationships with agents, artists, and managers
Highly skilled at projecting and managing budgets
Exceptional experience with music/concert programming
Strong experience with programming in another area (i.e., dance, theater, literature, etc…)
Passion and willingness to learn about other arts practices (dance, theater, literature,
multidisciplinary, etc…)
The Performing Arts Industry
Our schedule follows the touring industry. You can expect the bulk of your hours to come during touring seasons; October – December, and February – May. This position is subject to non-traditional work hours. Some hours are scheduled “as needed” based on the show/event schedule. Shifts can be up to 12 hours in length.
